For nearly 30 years, I have helped people harness the incredible power of their minds to improve their health, reduce stress, overcome challenges, and create positive changes in their lives. During my 10 years as a childbirth educator, I also witnessed firsthand how deeply the mind and body can affect many aspects of fertility and a healthy comfortable pregnancy. When your body feels safe, relaxed, and supported, miracles can happen.
Today, I work with women and couples facing fertility challenges, and I often see how stress, fear, disappointment, and emotional overwhelm can affect the fertility journey. Whether someone is trying to naturally or going through In Vitro Fertilization (IVF), the emotional impact can be profound.
This is
In dialoging with her body in hypnosis, I asked if there was anything that could be done for the ovaries and uterus to be able to support a healthy full-term pregnancy and was so surprised at the response!!
A “guardian angel grandmother” needed to be placed in the uterus to watch over everything and make sure all was well. I’m sure this sounds completely silly, but it is amazing what can happen at the subconscious level. So, with the imaginary “guardian angel grandmother” installed and Mary learning a deep relaxation technique to use at work and other times when he she was stressed, we were both so excited that she became pregnant within 3 months.
I’m sure you’ve heard many times about couples that adopt a child after unsuccessfully trying to have one and then become pregnant. Once the “trying” and all the concerns about conceiving are gone, the body seems to be able to do that which seemed hopeless and impossible before.
Another fascinating case occurred when I was living in California and a practice of midwives operating in a hospital sent a patient of theirs’s to me. During the delivery of her first pregnancy, the patient had an unusual response during contractions. It seemed the uterus, instead of trying to move the baby downwards towards the birth canal, seemed to be resisting the movement. The midwives, wisely sensing this could be a psychological issue sent her to see me.
It turned out that that she had so much rage, fear and trauma from a sexual attack early in her pregnancy her female organs were holding onto all the emotions, and she ended up with an incredibly difficult delivery. Again, this was all discovered when she was in trance and communicating not so much with her mind, but with her body!
- An Israeli study of 185 women showed that the success rate of IVF treatments doubled from 14% to 28% when the subjects underwent hypnosis during implantation.
- A study published in Fertility and Sterility found that 55% of the previously infertile women studied who used mind/body techniques conceived, compared with 20% of the control group who didn’t use these techniques.
In the book “The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma “by Bessel van der Kolk, M.D., explains how trauma physically changes the brain and body, leading to lasting effects like PTSD, chronic pain, and emotional numbness. Van der Kolk, a leading trauma expert, argues that trauma isn’t just a mental event but a whole-body experience.

While hypnosis is never a guarantee of pregnancy, it offers something every woman seeking help with fertility or undergoing fertility treatment deserves, a greater sense of peace, empowerment, and emotional support.
